PharmaID: Covid -19
All will be fine!
Find out in time if you are infected with the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), avoid any complications, protect your loved ones and everything will be fine!
The new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus series and the COVID-19 respiratory disease that it caused have spread worldwide in just a few months. The consequences of the pandemic are a huge burden for the health system, for economy as well as for each individual person.
Since the virus continues to appear and spread around the world, we know more about the transmission rate. We also learn more about the severity of this virus, how likely it is that if someone gets sick, they get to the hospital or even worse.
And what we manage to understand is that we are dealing with a virus that is spreading very fast. And that in many times it spreads ” quietly ”. It means that people can be contagious, they can be infected with the virus, but they don’t have any symptoms. So they don’t even know that they are sick and can spread the disease to others. Also, we found out and know for some time that this virus can be quite serious for the elderly and for those with preexisting diseases.
In addition to caring for the sick persons, it is very important at this time to test many suspected cases of infection with SARS-CoV-2.
Next you will find out how a coronavirus test works, when it should be performed and the significance of the test results:
- SARS-CoV-2 testing uses PCR technology.
- To detect a SARS-CoV-2 infection, highly reliable PCR technology is used. The abbreviation PCR represents the polymerase chain reaction. By this method, the genetic material of the virus is reproduced. Very few virus particles are required for this test procedure to obtain a meaningful test result.
- You receive immediately the SARS-CoV-2 PCR analysis from Novogenia Salzburg
What you get:
The virus responsible for COVID-19 comes from the coronavirus family, which includes also many other common pathogens. In order to obtain a reliable test result, it is necessary for the analysis technology to be able to recognize the specific characteristics of SARS-CoV-2. Unlike humans, viruses do not have DNA, but rather the so-called RNA. Because the genetic code of the virus is kept in it, RNA must first extract from the virus as part of the SARS CoV-2 test.
In the next step, the isolated RNA can then be converted to DNA using the reverse transcription method. The DNA obtained in this way can now be mixed with specific reagents that particularly look for the unique characteristics of coronaviruses responsible for COVID-19. If the search is successful, the DNA is replicated so that the lab analyzer can measure the growth and thus give a positive test result.
How does the Coronavirus test in the Novogenia lab works in practice?
To be able to perform the coronavirus test, a neck swab of a test person is required. For this purpose, we send an established sample by post. The kit contains easy-to-understand instructions and all the tools you need to take the smear and send it back safely.
The smear is neutralized and kept in a special stabilization solution. This eliminates the risk of infection and any virus molecule that may be present.
After the sample is received in our laboratory, we perform the coronavirus test. The analysis is usually completed in one to three days. The result, which is protected by authentication (registration), is sent immediately by e-mail, so that the tested person can be sure as soon as possible.
Test significance on COVID-19
The test procedure used is very precise and also works for patients with an asymptomatic course of the disease. Therefore, a positive test result is reliable evidence of a SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.
If no virus particles were found in a sample, on the other hand, it may be assumed that the patient was not infected with SARS-CoV-2. In order to avoid future infections, despite the negative test result, it is nevertheless logical to follow the generally recommended rules for avoiding social contacts.
Note: Coronavirus tests are performed in the Novogenia Salzburg BSL-2 laboratory (Biosafety Level 2 for virus analysis). There are five analysis stations available. With this it can be analyze 100,000 tests a month.
The laboratory is ISO certified (ISO 9001), approved by the Austrian Ministry of Health for the implementation of medical genetic analyzes, works according to ISO15189 standard and 2020 accredited.
